BBL delivers photothermal energy to gently heat the top layers of the skin. This energy breaks down unwanted melanin, which is responsible for pigmented lesions and discoloration. It also eliminates vascular lesions and redness. BBL is selective in targeting areas of extra pigmentation or redness, but also stimulates skin cell regeneration and collagen production for an overall improvement in skin quality and skin health.

This varies patient to patient, but most need 3-4 treatments for optimal results. Treatments are spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

You will see noticeable improvement within 1 week, with continued improvement over time.

After completing a series of treatments and reaching your skin goals, we recommend maintaining results with 1-2 treatments per year. The better you are about wearing SPF and avoiding direct sun exposure, the better your results will be and the longer your results will last. With any in-office skin treatment we recommend an at-home medical grade skincare regimen designed for you by Skin Design. In-office treatments are only a small fraction of what you can do to improve your skin’s health and appearance. A medical grade, at-home skincare regimen will not only give you better results, but help you maintain those results.

The most common side effects are mild redness, warmth and a bit of swelling, which improves 12-24 hours after treatment. You will also notice darkening of pigment, which is an anticipated side effect. This indicates the pigmental was targeted and is rising to the surface of the skin to slough off over the next 1-2 weeks.

There is no downtime- you are able to return to your normal, daily activities including working out and wearing makeup. It is imperative that you wear sunscreen immediately after treatment and for several weeks following treatment. At Skin Design, we recommend SPF everyday, whether or not you are receiving BBL. If you are concerned about social downtime, we recommend you receive treatment at least 2 weeks before any major event (ie: wedding, family photos, etc.).

The most commonly treated areas are the face, neck, backs of hands and chest as these areas tend to experience the most sun exposure and damage.

You can expect a mild warming sensation and the feeling of a slight rubber band snap against the skin. We use cooling gel throughout the treatment and a sapphire on the end of the BBL applicator will keep the skin cool and comfortable.
