Kybella is an injectable treatment made of deoxycholic acid, designed to destroy and reduce unwanted submental fat.

Deoxycholic acid naturally occurs in our digestive system to help break down and eliminate fat. When injected into fat pockets (ie: the “double chin”), the product will kill fat cells, allowing your body to eliminate them, mostly through the lymphatic system. The result is a reduction in the size of the fat pocket. This type of procedure is called injection lipolysis.

This varies patient to patient, however, most patients receive 2-4 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart. The maximum number of Kybella treatments is 6.

Results are usually noticeable about 6 weeks after treatment, with peak results at 3 months after treatment. Results do become cumulative with ongoing treatments.

Kybella permanently eliminates the fat cells in the treatment area. However, new fat cells could develop in the future.

The most common side effects are tenderness, swelling, bruising, numbness  and redness at the treatment site. Swelling can last up to 2 weeks.

Bruising and swelling are common and can last up to 2 weeks. We recommend you receive treatment at least 2 weeks before any major event (ie: wedding, family photos, etc.) if you are concerned about social downtime.

Kybella is a non-surgical option for the removal of excess submental/chin fat with a shorter recovery time compared to other measures (such as liposuction).
